Cons: 1)sleeping surface is very low to the floor. My 6-month-old daughter is a great crib sleeper, but she doesn't like pack and plays and porta cribs since the sleeping surface is so low to the ground. But unless you co-sleep, there are really no options for travel cribs other than these play yard type things where the sleeping surface is so low. it was like our daughter was an animal in a cage at a pet store. She was miserable. We had to let her fall asleep in our arms or on the bed and then put her down in the travel crib when she was already asleep. I don't understand why no on ehas come up with a better option. The bassinet attachment on play yards are great but they are only good until the baby is 15lbs. I wish there was a way to progressively lower the bassinets in play yards just as you do a crib mattress. This travel crib is amazing! We tried setting up a pack-n-play, what a fiasco. The baby was screaming because he was so tired and I just couldn't move fast enough setting the dumb thing up. The Baby Bjorn Travel Crib on the other hand sets up in under 10 seconds - really. I was absolutely amazed. It took very few brain cells to set up - like maybe 11 :) or in other works it's extremely simple to set up. I'll admit it, I didn't even look at the instructions because it's so intuitive. Try that with a pack-n-play that needs certain parts clicked in before others, etc.

It takes up very little space in the car (the pack-n-play took up at least double the space). And you can take it on an airplane as a checked piece of luggage without it getting damaged. The mattress is thicker and more comfortable than other travel cribs. And another nice feature is that there isn't a bar running under the mattress like the pack-n-play making it miserable for the baby.

The only problem I've seen so far is that the mattress doesn't come with a sheet. But those are easy to come by so it's not really been a problem.

Because of this fantastic travel crib, my 4 month old and I slept like logs on our most recent trip. My baby slept well because the crib is spacious and airy. She fell asleep just as quickly as she does in her bassinet at home. I slept well because this crib rocks. It is incredibly easy to set up which is amazing since nothing seems to be easy to set up these days! I also felt that the construction was solid and safe. I had read about some dangers of some travel cribs and I was worried. But there are a lot of things this crib has going for it in terms of safety - I like that my baby is very visible since most of the crib is made of a see-through netting. This crib also feels very sturdy and again, I love the spaciousness of it. My little one did not seem at all to be busting to get out. I also think having the sleeping surface low to the ground (basically on the floor) helps this to be a very safe travel crib. But I will see how my little one does with this crib in another year or two! I'd love to know how toddlers react in this crib. We purchased this crib for our holiday travels despite being unable to find many online reviews. I was worried that our baby would have trouble sleeping in it. At home she only sleeps in her crib. Oh My Gosh!!!! :) This is the find of the year!!!!!!!!!!
This crib is awesome!!!!!! I recently discovered it and it is truly amazing!!!!! It is only 11 lbs!!!!! It's totally portable!!!!
AND...as soon as you open it, it automatically falls into place!!!! It sets up in seconds...ANYWHERE!!!!! It's also completely machine washable!!!!!!
I'm going to Philly in 2 wks. and then I'm taking it to Phoenix.

This travel crib works perfect wherever you go. It even fits in a large check-in luggage bag. I took it with me last time when we had a trip to Asia. THIS CRIB IS AMAZING! I know that it is soooo difficult to take another person's word for it, but trust me - you won't be disappointed! I was really apprehensive about spending so much money on a travel crib. We are currently living on student loan money, so I actually used birthday money to purchase this...it is the best birthday money I have EVER spent! I did so much research on travel cribs because I want to get my money's worth. We didn't want our pack n play anymore because we are adding to our family this year and will have three kids now - the pack n play takes up WAY too much room in the trunk, so I wanted something smaller. Plus, the pack n play is ridiculous with it's cardboard mattress and bar right in the middle of their back. Here's why you need this crib:

Weight, Size & Mattress:
When they say light - they mean it! It is so easy to lift and carry, which is a big deal because I'm pregnant and on the wimpy side. The pack n play is near impossible for me to get around. Also, the way in which it folds up is amazing! It fits into a brief-case shaped bag which is VERY durable and strong and fits much more easily when trying to pack for a trip. One of my favorite things is the mattress! It is so comfortable! It is actually soft (not too soft for newborns though). Definitely beats ANY pack n play mattress 100 to 1. By the way - I looked everywhere to find out if they sold sheets that fit the mattress because it is not the same size as a pack n play. When I called Baby Swede, they said that any standard crib sheet would fit. You could even just line it with a blanket if you wanted to. They should sell you a secondary mattress cover in case you need to switch them in the middle of the night, but you can probably get an extra one from the manufacturer. Another thing about the mattress size - it is 4" longer than a pack n play and only 1" shorter in width. Since your children grow length wise, this is ideal! My daughter is only two and already practically hits both ends in the pack n play...and she's petite.

Set up & Take Down:
I know it sounds crazy, but the ease of use with this crib is what you will fall in love with! I know that all of you have struggled with your pack n plays in the past (or maybe a friend's crib) in trying to figure out if you have to push the center down first - no! lock the rails first - no! arghh! Here's what you do with this: take it out of the bag; unfold it (it will be folded in half); then simply turn it over and watch the legs and everything else just fall into place! Simply insert the mattress. It is so light, you do it all while standing up - no more back aches from bending over and reaching to lock rails and push down buttons. I had watched the video online so many times, I didn't even have to read the instructions to figure it out. It literally took me 10 seconds to get it up. As if that wasn't great enough! For take down all you do is turn the crib over (after removing the mattress) and pull each leg out and fold it in towards the center. Then you simply fold the crib in half and you're done. This took me 30 seconds. No kidding!

Stability:
This was what I was MOST skeptical about. How on earth could something so light be sturdy enough? Baby Bjorn tested this specifically for stability. My 2 year old toddler cannot tip it over when standing inside the crib and she can't even tip it over from the outside when it's completely empty (let alone if there is another child on the inside). The tapered shape of it is what gives it such strength. You will NOT believe your eyes!

Comparison:
The only other crib that is this type of style is the Phil & Teds travel crib. DO NOT BUY IT! It IS $100 cheaper (which really drew my attention), BUT it does not even compare! It is meant for outside play such as the beach or park. Read the reviews - it has steaks to drive into the corners...does your house have sand floors? Because of this, it is completely unstable on solid ground (like hotel rooms). It is flimsy and is easily tipped over from inside and out. If you need something for a lot of travel (or even a little) - the Baby Bjorn is the one you want. There is a reason that it costs more - and it's worth it! By far, the BEST baby purchase I have ever made!

I researched this long and hard when I decided to go with it. Ebay RARELY has them listed, and when they are, they're no cheaper. I did find it for $229 and up, however any place that had it a little cheaper did not have it in stock (it's out everywhere!). This is the best portable crib out there. I debated between this and a pack n play for so long and I'm so glad I made the decision to go with the Bjorn. It's light, easy to transport, very sturdy, and looks nice. I'm not into overly cutesy baby products and this fit the bill. It's simple but attractive and takes up very little space. I used the travel crib last night for the first time and my 4 month old seemed to like it. She didn't fuss and seemed to sleep comfortably. This crib is pretty much as advertised. It sets up in seconds (such a great feature for those late night hotel check-ins, no thought involved, just pull out and unfold) and is very comfortable. My daughter slept through the night in it (which she never does!).

However, a few thoughts.

1. The legs extend out and I kept tripping over them as I got out of bed (we had the crib next to me). Be very careful to remember the crib's 'footprint' is wider than you think and those legs are trippy.

2.I was excited to see reviews that said they set the Bjorn crib up in the airport for their baby as when we travel overseas it's a day and a half of travel to our destination with lots of layovers. I initially thought the crib was small enough to be a carry on. Now that I have it, I think it's too wide for overhead compartments on a plane. I think we'll have to check it.

3. Supposedly this crib can be used for several years, however, the Bjorn is a mini-crib. It's not very long. So if you have a tall baby (which we do) it may not last much past the first year or two.

4. I don't think the Bjorn makes a good playpen. It's too small and the walls provide little support. For longer road trips, we'll be taking the pack and play to use as a playpen.

This product is a joy to travel with. We used the Pack and Play from Graco a few times and looking back that thing is a huge, heavy plastic piece of junk.

Our baby sleeps better in the Baby Bjorn, it is easier to assemble (great for quick naps on the go) and our child absolutely loves it.

You can literally set this thing up in 2 minutes or less where the Pack N Play takes a while longer and requires a lot more assembling and back bending.

The Baby Bjorn travel cot has been a worthwhile investment, especially for longer trips where we are flying to the destination and need to travel as compactly as possible (and pack-n-plays are too heavy and bulky to carry/check-in).

Advantages:
+ easy to set-up and shut-down
+ significantly lighter than a pack-n-play/playard to carry
+ thicker, more comfortable mattress pad in this Baby Bjorn (vs those in pack and plays), so the surface seems more comfortable for sleeping. Our 10-month old daughter has slept very well in it without requiring any 'socialization' with the crib in advance. (Bringing familiar toys, blankets and/or stuffed animals from home helps on the trip to make the new sleeping area seem familiar)

Disadvantages:
- there aren't any sheets manufactured for this crib, so we are using a standard crib sheet and tucking it in around the sides
- the mattress is waterproof (good), but with only a cotton sheet covering it, the baby tends to perspire when sleeping for a long time on the mattress. We made the set-up more breathable by putting a blanket over the mattress (under the sheet -- to act as a mattress cover), and the blanket provided an additional layer that prevents the baby from sweating.

Suggestions: the sides of the cot are mesh, so recommend that you bring a few light-weight blankets to drape over the sides to make the crib dark if you have to co-exist in the same (hotel) room and want to have a light on, as well as block any drafts if there are doorways near the crib.

Expensive, but worth it! This is the best portable crib out there! We had the Pea Pod, which was good until baby could sit up, and then it freaked him out that his head hit the top of the "crib" when sitting up (it's like a mini tent) Also, it was sort of annoying to fold up again after use. Looked into the Phil and Ted crib, but the setup seemed too painful when you need a crib in a hurry (same with the Pea Pod). The Bjorn crib sets up in 2 seconds - you remove it from the bag and it pops into place by itself. Folding is equally easy. Koala baby sheets do fit it well; especially the "deluxe play yard" sheet made of ultra plushy velboa fabric (it's listed as polyester but it's the super-soft plush fabric otherwise known as velboa). This sheet is a little longer than the cotton Koala baby sheets, though the cotton ones are fine, too. We sat in the Bjorn and read books to get our son used to the crib, and there was room for both me (a full-sized adult) and baby to sit in it and read! It was really comfy, too. When my little one outgrew the family basinet, I was presented with the option of moving the crib up a flight of stairs (temporarily) or moving our bed down a flight of stairs (temporarily). Thus, I had a need for a third option.

I bought this crib in preparation for a family trip with my 20 month old son. All these products look great on the website and in person but until you actually take it on a trip and use it, you just don't really know if it will be money well spent or just another piece of equipment confined to the storage room. Anyhow, the first thing that struck me was the size of the crib when its collapsed and in its carry case. It is not big at all. Very compact and easy to carry. The size of the crib is basically half of the base size as it folds in half. Everything else folds flat and in on itself. If you check the Baby Bjorn website, it shows a demo of how you open and close the crib. It REALLY is that easy. The build quality of the materials is excellent and should last a long time. That should be a given considering the price of this crib.

The ultimate test of a crib though, no matter how much we like it, is if your child will actually sleep in it. We were a bit worried on the first night of the trip; being in a new place in a new crib we thought that our son might be a bit fussy. We crossed our fingers and put him in and he was asleep in the blink of an eye. We used it for the duration of our week long trip and we loved it. We put him in it and he would be very comfortable in there. I think the mesh sides really help as it is see through and he probably feels less confined. The only downside I can see is that as your kid gets taller, my son is about 34-35" now, they will be able to climb out by themselves. I think he could get out now if he really tried. Not a big deal if you are careful, but this isn't something you want to use if you need them to be "locked down" in the crib for a period of time.

I couldn't find any reviews from people who used this crib as the primary crib before our purchase, so it was a bit of a gamble but we went ahead. It was a fantastic decision - our baby loves the crib and sleeps very well in it both at home and in hotels.

It is SO easy to assemble and pack up, you don't even need to read the instructions! It is a little on the small side, but our 3 month old who is very long has plenty of room, and I think it will fit her for many more months. Besides, it is the compact nature that makes it so portable. We want her to associate the crib with sleep, so she doesn't use it as a play area, it might seem a little on the small side if you wanted it for play. The mattress is quite thin, but she is certainly comfortable, and it has a waterproof cover so no stains.

There are no baby bjorn crib sheets available at this point (I'm sure eventually they will come) but we found the Koala Kids Cotton Play-yard sheets fit fine (they are wider and not quite long enough but somehow they end up fitting very well)

In the packed up state, it is about the size of an art portfolio, and weighs less than 11 pounds, so it is very easy to carry. We have not taken it on a commercial flight yet, so cannot comment on whether it fits into overhead bins, We also find that we can leave a sheet on the mattress and fit a blanket into the case with the crib, so it is ready to go when we arrive (no frantic unpacking of suitcases to find the swaddle blanket!)

This bed is so simple to set up and take down. We recently took it on vacation and it fit great in our suitcase (29") with room on the side for diapers and room on the top for clothes. This is, by far, the easiest to set up and take down pack and play/crib I've seen.
Unzip the carrier bag, pull out the frame, shake it out and then pop the mattress in. Once you learn just how it works, it takes 30 seconds or so to set up. It takes longer to fold up, but is also just as simple.
It travels really well (size of a small flat suitcase, and durable enough to check while flying) and makes it so much easier to visit friends who don't have space for a full sized pack and play.

This crib is a huge improvement over the pack-n-play. The pack-n-play isn't bad, but this BabyBjorn travel crib is so much lighter and easy to travel with. We have been traveling with our baby (first child) since he was about two months old. At that time, I did a lot of research on the various travel beds available. I really liked this one but didn't want to put out the cash. So I went with an Eddie Bauer travel bed. That lasted all of about three months because as soon as we couldn't swaddle him anymore and he started rolling over, it was useless.

For our next trip (after he outgrew the EB bed), I took the pack and play. Well it took me so long to break it down I was almost in tears - this was before we'd even left home! Then we arrived at our destination late at night, the baby was screaming because he was so tired and it took us what seemed like forever to get it set up.

I decided I wasn't traveling with that again because it was too heavy to lug around. So then I got a Peapod. That worked okay, but once the baby was active (i.e., able to walk and crawl around), he would flip it over all the time. He also didn't like the 'cover' over his head.

We needed to go to my in-laws for about 10 days a couple of months ago - our longest trip to date, and I knew we couldn't use the pack and play and the Peapod wouldn't have worked. Plus, we had long layovers on both legs and I wanted something that I could use during the layovers (I'd done this with the Peapod before) - it's helpful to have somewhere where they can play when you're stuck in the airport for hours. So I looked into the BabyBjorn. I read all the reviews here on Amazon (you'll see most of them are 4s and 5s) - and I was sold. I also watched the videos on the BabyBjorn website. Amazon had them on sale too (and I got an extra discount by using BillMeLater).

Let me tell you it was worth every penny!!! I wish I'd bought that the first time - I would have saved the money on the Eddie Bauer bed and the Peapod. He slept fine every night we were away from home.

Pros:
* It is so easy to move around. The bag it comes in is like a big briefcase (it's too big - long - to put in the overhead compartment on airplanes though, but you can gate check it) - I was even able to fit a couple of toys into it as well. It's very lightweight. You can lift it up with one hand. Try doing that with your pack and play.

* Setting it up and taking it down is a snap. Watch the video on the BabyBjorn website and look at the instruction sheet - you'll figure it out in no time. I used it in the airport for our layovers and had to give at least three people the website.

Cons (these are not really cons, as none of these would stop me from telling you to get this bed! Think of them more as things-to-watch-out-for):

* As stated in other reviews, it doesn't come with its own sheet. I did see they (BabyBjorn) are selling one now for $40. Save your money and just use your pack and play sheet - they work fine; just tuck under any excess. We traveled this Thanksgiving and I forgot my sheet at home, and I was able to get by with using two of my aunt's king size pillow cases - just overlapped them and tucked them under and he slept like a charm.

* One review I read here on amazon warned that the legs 'stick out' a bit and it's easy to stub your toe if you forget that. This is true. I had the bed a little too close to our bed and did stub my toe one night after a late night bathroom visit. Solution: just move the travel bed a little farther away from your bed!

* It is low to the ground. That has not been a problem for our baby - he's an awesome sleeper. Plus, he's a big baby and his crib at home is already at the lowest point it can drop to, so I think he was accustomed to that. But if you have a bad back, this would be something to consider if your child is not yet able to stand up and reach up for you to pick him/her up.

I bought this travel crib because of such great reviews. I had never heard of one of these before. I thought only pack n plays existed for travel sleeping for babies. Before my daughter was born I registered for (and received as a gift) a pack-and-play with all of the bells and whistles: bassinet, changing table, night light, mobile, you name it. I though we would use it frequently on the first floor of our house and less often as a travel bed. Because of the sloping design, the mattress should be big enough to sleep a kid until they are old enough to sleep on a cot/bed. But it's not so spacious that I'd use it as a playpen. Pen, yes. Play, no.

My biggest complaint about this crib is the price -- it's well-made, but the mattress is your basic foam (and in fact, if you wash the outer cover you are stripping it right down to the block of foam) that will probably only last a few years. And it requires a custom fitted sheet which is NOT included. At present the best price for this crib on Amazon is $220 -- for that much money, the lack of a sheet is almost criminal. I feel like they are preying on parents who are willing to spend $$$ on their children that they otherwise wouldn't or couldn't. This seems to be par for the course with the Baby Bjorn stuff.

Did my share of research and reviews of baby travel cribs and bought the babybjorn crib. So happy my wife and I did! We have twin girls and bought only one crib and used the twin pack-n-play for the other crib. The one girl slept just fine in the babybjorn crib. The other girl was a bit fussy probably cause of the large amount of space in the pack-n-play. The babybjorn crib is very stable. Just be aware of the legs stickin out. Unpacking the crib is very easy. Takes about another 20 sec to fold it up when finished using it. If you're the type that needs to have the proper fitted sheet on the mattress, then by all means go ahead and purchase the babybjorn bed sheet. Otherwise we were fine with tucking the excess material of the regular baby bed fitted-sheet under the mattress (saves a few $$$). All-n-all, very good travel crib. I wish I'd known about this travel bed before I jumped on the Pack n Play bandwagon. Luckily I got a used PnP so not much money wasted. Too bad the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light (BBTCL) doesn't have a changing table add-on, or it'd have (nearly) everything.
This is a great "little" travel crib compared to the PnP - 11lbs compared to 30lbs. In planning a 3-wk trip by myself with my child, stroller, car seat, luggage, carry on, and diaper bag, I knew I couldn't afford the space and weight that a PnP would take, so I went for the BBTCL. Here is my impression:
PROS:
-it sets up like a dream; I didn't even look at the directions and was able to set up and take down in no time by myself.
-feels sturdy and safe for my wiggly, crawling 8-mo-old (time will tell if that rings true for an older, standing child).
-mattress is cushy and feels like it's comfortable for a child.
-my standard crib sheets fit this well (esp. the ones that are slightly tighter on the crib mattress) - so DON'T FALL INTO THE TRAP OF BUYING THE $40 BBTCL-SPECIFIC CRIB SHEET! - try out your own sheets first; I don't have to use any fasteners to keep the regular sheet tight enough in the BBTCL, and the mattress pushes down into the bottom of the travel crib well enough to keep the sheets tight.
-easy to just toss in the car, not heavy.

CONS:
-this will *definitely* not fit in standard-sized luggage. I've had to search around for luggage that will fit this bed, and it doesn't leave much room for packing clothes and essentials for a trip. However, I will make it work since I don't want to deal with 2 suitcases and don't want to pay the ridiculous airline fees for extra luggage.
-This will not work as a carry on, for several reasons. 1) The total dimensions are 46.5", 1.5" over the limit set by (some) airlines for carry-ons. 2) There is NO shoulder strap. This is by far the biggest flaw and a huge oversight by Baby Bjorn. This makes it more cumbersome to carry while carrying my child and makes it nearly impossible to carry long distances with anything else in your arms. It only has 2 handles, barely big enough to fit through up to your elbow and still carry it comfortably.
-The mattress sits on the floor. This isn't typically a problem, however we used it camping this past weekend and found that it gave no good insulation between the cold ground and the mattress (like a PnP would), and the mattress got very cold. I would recommend getting a camping air mat or layers of something to put under the entire bed if you are using this for camping in colder areas.

Overall, I think the price is a little high. I would like to see it around $150-175 and no higher. But, it seems to be a good purchase so far and I am so relieved to not have to carry a PnP on all our flights. This is my first review of a product on amazon--this crib really does live up to all of the PP comments. I bought the item yesterday b/c we will need a crib to transport to and from a daily nanny share. I was looking for something safe, light, and easy to set up. Tried it in the store and it really does setup and breakdown like a dream. I immediately returned my unopened (heavy) pack and play and bought the Bjorn crib.

But the real test is always how baby will respond. I put my daughter in the crib for the first time 45 minutes ago for her morning nap and she did not say a word. No fussing, instant sleep. I draped a small sheet on top of the crib to darken the space. I love this product already.

I did not buy the Bjorn sheet that goes with it. I saw it in the store and thought it was soft but not worth $[...]. I heard the Koala travel crib sheets fit it--the Pack and Play sheets do not, I tried.

I do think the size of this crib might make it difficult to carry on for airline travel. It sounds like other people have done this, it might depend on the airline. We recently went on the trip with 9 months old baby. She only sleeps in her crib so there is no way we could sleep with her on our bed during the trip. I recently bought the travel crib based on all of the positive reviews. Most of the other comments were spot on.

Pros:
1. Lightweight
2. Not bulky and awkward
3. Amazingly quick and easy to set up and take down. Watch the video on the Baby Bjorn website. It really is that easy.

Cons:
1. Overpriced
2. Their sheet is also overpriced, but the Khoala Baby travel crib sheets from Babies R Us are $12 for a set of 2 and fit fine. When I first put them on I thought they were a little tight, but they turned out to be perfect. Pack and Play sheets don't fit.
3. Doesn't have the raised bassinett. It would be a pain to bend down so far if you had a newborn and wanted to use this regularly, like in your home as a second place for napping. For that purpose I would just buy a cheap Pack and Play and feel like a goober for spending money on two travel cribs. They really serve two different purposes.

We hemmed and hawed over whether we should get this, due to the high price. We finally went for it just days before leaving on a trip to Europe. Well, the Babybjorn crib is now on our top-3 list for baby essentials (along with the Maclaren Volo and Pampers, really). I can't tell you how this thing saved our sanity in the airport, on ferries, in hotels, and on the beach. Our baby is at the crawling / just walking stage, and the crib is perfect. It is light, and most importantly, easy to set up and pull down. The mattress actually rests on the floor, so the unit is extremely stable. No draft, apparently, because the mesh is higher up. The mattress itself is high-quality, like a softer wresting mat, and waterproof. You can use a fitted sheet for standard cribs. The baby fell a couple times and didn't feel a thing, or at least didn't cry. The top rim is padded. The flaring poles are away from the sides, so when the baby falls against the siding, its head won't hit a hard object. The design is extremely well thought out. Our only suggestion is a numbering system for the poles, as folding the crib up requires a certain order for the unit to fold completely flat. I have been very happy with Baby Playards. It is light weight and easy to fold up and down. I guess that the sides are a little shorter than other pack n plays but not enough that you really notice. My 1 year old loves to sleep in Baby Playards. The pattern a "Noah's Ark" theme and is cute.

Baby Playards is an excellent item. When you've done it once, it is so easy! Baby Playards looks good and seems to be vey sturdy. We piled presents in it and we were so proud to give it. The upcoming parents are really happy with it. Especially when they saw how easy it is to take down and put back up. I highly recommend use Baby Playards. I also believe that the price was very good. I've seen others in the store that didn't look as nice and were more expensive.

It 'been a great "crib" for the little child of four months just spent a week with our us. The function of the machine was perfect for him. We had no difficulty in its implementation, although I must admit that we have not figured out how to get all the coins in the box I was a bit 'worried that it would be cumbersome on the mattress and I did publish a quilted under the sheet. I'm not sure that was necessary, but did not sleep much. I was not impressed by the manger "mobile" included, but it was, so that all that matters.
